Saxon Day Centre

Orpington's social hub for older people

About Us

The Charity

The Saxon Day Centre is operated by the charity Age Concern Orpington and District, which has existed in one form or another since 1945, providing support and benefit to older people in Orpington and surrounding areas.

Our charity’s mission is to provide high-quality, dignified care and a range of person-centred activities, at an affordable price, that support the physical and mental well-being of our members by reducing loneliness and enabling individuals to maintain their independence within a safe environment.

We have provided services at the Saxon Centre since 1980, initially on behalf of Bromley Borough and since 2014, as an independent, not-for-profit, charitable company. In 2026, the London Borough of Bromley confirmed their support and recognition of our day care services for older people by announcing that they would be developing a bespoke facility for us nearby, on Blenheim Road, Orpington, which we look forward to occupying in late 2027.

Our operating costs are recovered from fees paid by service users, plus legacies and charitable donations. If you wish to make a donation, please contact the Centre Manager for further details.

“Thank you so much. The centre has helped our whole family deal with mum’s issues.”

The Saxon Team

The Saxon Day Centre is run by a team of qualified and experienced staff, assisted by volunteers and supported by the Board of Trustees of Age Concern Orpington and District. The team is committed to enabling older people in our community to lead healthy and fulfilled lives as active, involved and equal citizens. We aim to promote and encourage their wellbeing and help to make their lives more secure, dignified and enjoyable.

We follow guidelines for good governance and care and adhere to data protection, environmental health, catering and other applicable standards.

“I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers and chefs!! It’s such an important service you provide.”

Staff

Our friendly staff operate under the management of the Centre Manager, who heads a team of care, catering and administrative staff and together they provide a kind-hearted, safe and welcoming environment.
We are an Equal Opportunities employer.

Volunteers

Our volunteers are invaluable members of the Saxon family and come from different backgrounds, bringing a multitude of interests and skills. Volunteers help in a variety of ways, from assisting with in-house activities, helping to serve lunches, or simply through conversation and general companionship for our members.

Time spent with the Saxon Day Centre can be very enjoyable and fulfilling and new volunteers are always welcome. So, if you are interested to find out more and get involved, please contact the Centre for more information.

Trustees

We have an active Board of Trustees who run the charity and provide support and guidance to the Centre Manager and their team. The Trustees are all volunteers and bring professional and life skills and experience that can be applied to our goals.

We are keen to welcome new Trustees from all backgrounds, especially those with skills that will complement the management and operation of the Saxon Day Centre. If you would like further information on becoming a Trustee then please contact the Chair of the Board of Trustees via the Saxon Centre.

Local support and donations

We are grateful to the many individuals, local community groups and businesses for their continued support. This may be through legacies or donations, providing equipment, or simply giving time to help us in what we do.

If you wish to make a donation, get involved or simply learn more about us and what we do, please contact the Saxon Day Centre.
